About Me

This blog is all about my various activities.
About Me
Hi, I’m David Edwards. Over the last few years I’ve been able to do a bit of travelling; sometimes by bike around Australia, and sometimes with work overseas. This website started as a place to show off the photos I’ve taken and I’ve extended it to include a blog to add a bit more detail to the trips I do and other activities.
For more details on me, see my profile on LinkedIn.
Photography
The Albums page lists all of the galleries and the albums available elsewhere on this site. The blog entries highlight some photos but do not show all.
I have a Canon EOS 20D (digital) with assorted lenses, a reasonable flash and two Manfrotto tripods. I’m finding the 17-85 Image Stabiliser lens is my favourite and gets used 95% of the time. I also carry an older EOS 500N (film) that gets dragged out occasionally for wide-angle duties with a 20-35mm lens (which loses its wide-angle aspect with the digital due to the reduced sensor size).
I was the unofficial photographer for my martial arts school. This has challenged my photography with low-light high-speed action shots.
Riding
I have been riding motorcycles since 1994 and that’s how I met my wife. I have a bright yellow BMW R1150GS that has seen much of Australia and follows on from a 1996 R100GSPD, and a F650Dakar. My wife has an old R80ST.
Much of my bike travels have allowed me to see parts of Australia I normally wouldn’t get to, like remote parts of the West Coast of Tasmania and Wilpena Pound in SA. Our honeymoon was spent on a BMW Safari to Tasmania.
Martial Arts
I’ve been studying a mixed martial art called Bushidokan at Ultimate Martial Arts and Fitness. I’m currently preparing for my Black Belt grading in Jun 09. I started training in Bushidokan in late 2005. In May 2009 I stopped training in Bushidokan.
Software and Web Design
This blog is based on freely-available software that has been tweaked by me.
