We’ve just had a huge Trailwalker-based weekend. Saturday night (14th) was our major fundraiser comprising Trivia Night and Silent Auction. Yesterday (15th) was our second-last training walk over the last leg of the course; CP8 over Mt Little Joe and back to the finish.
The weekend just gone was due to be the pinnacle of our OXFAM Trailwalker training; walks on both Sat and Sun of about 40klms each. We had planned to use sections of the trail, but the fires put paid to that. So we opted for a few laps of climbing Mt Dandenong on the Saturday and about 40klms along the Dandenong Creek bike trail on Sunday.
We had planned a night walk as part of the OXFAM Trailwalker training for some time and it came about last night. We needed to make sure everyone was comfortable stumbling around on tracks in the dark, getting lost and cold. Well not really.
We’d been advised by OXFAM, rightly, to steer clear of the areas where the bushfires had been or were threatening. This was in the interest of walker safety and out of consideration for those directly affected by the fires. Again, rightly so. But this put the kybosh on our planned walk from Woori Yallock (CP7) to CP8 and then over Mt Littlejoe and back. We changed our plans to do the Mt Dandenong fire trail a couple of times instead.
