Researching my Family Tree

I have been meaning to research my family tree for as long as I can remember; conversations with distant aunts at family gatherings, traipsing around the Port Fairy cemetery after my grandmothers funeral, and the inquisitiveness of grandparents unknown. My father and his sister grew up wards of the state and for many years we [...]

Family trip to Tassie

It’s been a long time since I last posted. All my free time was sucked up by a huge interstate project over late Oct – early Dec; gotta love those 18-hour days (see my post “Being Shafted by the Man” to read my whinge on working stupid hours)! So, now that I’ve had a chance [...]

Another great trek

I’ve just got back (early) from another great bike trip; the annual “Trek” held over the Melbourne Cup weekend. This years trek involved 18 folks on 16 bikes, some great weather and the usual brilliant roads.

Day 1 – Melb to Tallangatta
We met at Skips workshop for the usual pre-trek gathering, ginning and some minor repairs. [...]

Goju – Three months on

Well it’s been just over three months since I started training with my current school. I must say I’m still struggling; both physically and technically. My fitness has dropped off significantly since the Black Belt qualifier with Bushidokan; I struggled to do 20 push-ups last night.
I’m also up against it technically. I’m certainly a [...]

Ubuntu as Home Print Server

I recently acquired a dead Dell 4700 desktop machine from my father. After replacing the power supply, adding some memory and a gigabit ethernet card, it was ready to go. I’d been thinking for some time of setting up a Linux-based home server for print sharing and backup. I installed Ubuntu 9.04 desktop and [...]
